We love injecting loads of movement into our days at Bardon Kindy.🍃☀️☺️ And with green spaces on our doorstep like the oval, this week we headed out for some exercise circuits! We set each cone with a symbol of a different exercise to be complete before moving to the next. We then shifted to a speed game where we’d blow the whistle and call out a colour to find and the exercise completed. These opportunities to get out and active in the morning are a great way to keep us alert and engaged – connecting body and mind! We’d love to hear one way you’ve moved this week! Ps if you’d love to find out more about our kindy and the wonderful things we do during our days, come chat to the teaching team on 11 June!

National Sorry Day is an important part of healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and healing for a Nation. National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year to acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generations. On this day, we remember and recognise our Stolen Generations and how they have been affected, either directly or indirectly, by this horrific part of our history since European colonisation. At Kindy, we explore reconciliation by embedding learning about First Nations Culture, Knowledge, Perspectives and People through our curriculum across the Kindy year. This culminates in our excursion to Balaangala Reconciliation Garden in term 3. We also encourage you to attend the Balaangala Reconciliation Garden in The Gap on Sunday.❤️🖤💛
We love encouraging teamwork @bardonkindy Being able to cooperate in small and large groups for a collective benefit is a vital life skill. 🙏 From cooperative board games, to obstacle games with planks, where we have to get everyone across without touching the ground (or “lava”) - these games just some great ways for nurturing communication, cooperation and problem solving skills among everyone! It’s a chance for peer mentoring and social learning. 👏 Ps this is just one skill we encourage at our non-profit kindy - come and learn so much more about what we do at our open day! On Saturday June 11 from 9-11 - EVERYONE’s welcome ✨🌿
What do you do to help stay calm and find your happy place when you feel angry? ❤️✨ This week we read ‘Mad Magpie’ (by Gregg Dreise). This dream time story is about a magpie who learns to control his anger and how not to react. “Stay calm like the surface of the water, yet strong like its current”. Guluu (Gamilaraay language word for Magpie) learns to sing when he is feeling munjerible (angry) as his strategy for calming himself. Following this engaging story, we had a group discussion about things that make us feel angry, frustrated or sad, and what it feels like, where we feel it and what happens to our brains. We introduced the concept of the upstairs brain and the downstairs brain and that when we are angry, we are thinking with our downstairs brain. This part of our brain is not good at solving problems and how we need to use strategies to calm so that we can return to thinking with our upstairs brain which will help us solve our problems. We talked about things we can do to calm and find our happy place with so many wonderful ideas - from “going to my bedroom”, to “having a cuddle with mum”. What do you do? ✨❤️

Come and join us on Sunday for our Bowman Park planting day. Twice a year we team up with Bowman Park volunteers to expand the beautiful green space opposite our adjoining creek. It is our way of giving back to the park that gives so much to us. Habitat Brisbane have very kindly pre-drilled holes and prepared the site ensuring a child friendly working bee. We will be meeting at the car park opposite the playground for a 9am start. Please bring hat, sunscreen, closed in shoes, water bottle, gloves, planting tools and snacks. We hope to see you there. 🌳
